Industrial electricity from wind and solar energy
Allow your industrial process to be driven sustainably by means of electrification using an e-boiler! Not only will you be reducing your CO2- and NOx emissions, you will also be saving on energy costs because the e-boiler replaces fossil fuel by wind- or solar-generated electricity at times when this is the more interesting option. The system works together with your current fossil fuel-driven installations to produce steam. You will even be eligible for a subsidy.

The benefitsThe Eneco e-boiler: improving sustainability the easy way
Being the frontrunner in the Dutch energy transition, Eneco helps you to make smarter, cleaner and more
br> sustainable choices. And what's more, we have a lot of experience with a wide range of sustainable energy solutions. The electrode boiler, for instance, is the worry-free, sustainable alternative to a gas boiler that doesn't require large investments.
Power-to-heat technology
By converting electricity into heat, the electrode boiler, supplied by Parat, uses one of the so-called ‘power-to-heat’ technologies. As soon as the e-boiler is switched on, the gas boiler will be turned off automatically. Because we are well-acquainted with wind and solar profiles and the electricity market, Eneco is able to determine for you when the e-boiler can best be switched on. That way you will benefit from steam at low cost.

Subsidy
Profit from the favourable SDE++ subsidy
An investment in an Eneco e-boiler is even more profitable with the SDE++ subsidy. As we have a lot of experience in successfully applying for SDE subsidies, we are more than happy to assist you with the application. Just leave it all to us.

Frequently asked questions
- When it comes to green electricity, we provide our clients with a full-service solution. The price of steam remains linked to the price of gas if the client so wishes. That way, your costs for steam remain identifiable and will not interfere with your budgeting processes.
- Contrary to for instance a CHP, biomass installation or heat pump, the dimensions of an e-boiler are limited. The boiler is placed vertically and, depending on the system's capacity, measures 5 to 7 metres in height and has a diameter of 2 to 4 metres.
A few pumps will be set up around the e-boiler and a control system will be put in place. Safe access to all boiler parts will also be ensured. The electrode boiler can be placed both indoors and outdoors.
The e-boiler will be connected to the steam system, boiler feed water system, the sewer system and the on-site electricity infrastructure. Any modifications to these systems will be specified in the design stage.
Eneco is capable of fully executing the design, the build, the test stage and the operation of the e-boiler. After the order is received, it takes about a year for the system to become operational. - Power from an electric boiler is a more sustainable alternative to the production of industrial power. The costs will not exceed those of power on the basis of gas. The SDE++ subsidy is a contributing factor in all this.
Because Eneco is well-acquainted with the production of wind and solar energy, purchasing sustainable electricity and predicting production- and price patterns based on the weather forecast, we are able to offer a competitive price for the long term and eliminate risks from the customer’s business case. - The realisation of an e-boiler may make you eligible for the SDE++ subsidy (subsidy for stimulation of sustainable energy production and climate transition). Eneco has a lot of experience in successfully applying for SDE subsidies and will be happy to take this off your hands. But how does the SDE++ scheme work? The subsidy is intended for bridging the price difference between gas-generated steam and steam from an e-boiler.
To make sure that the e-boiler will be operated on green electricity, it was determined that 2000 full load hours will be subsidised. Those are the hours that the electricity price is lowest and electricity is almost exclusively produced by windmills or solar panels.
Expectations are that there will be a subsidy round every year. Changes may still be made by the government, however. For the latest information visit: https://www.rvo.nl/subsidie-en-financieringswijzer/sde - The e-boiler is placed next to the existing gas-fired installations. The e-boiler is capable of supplying saturated and overheated steam up to 40bars. In principle, the e-boiler supplies steam when the wind is sufficiently forceful and the sun is shining. At times when the e-boiler does not supply steam, the gas-fired installations automatically take over the production. In time, we will replace gas by green gas or green hydrogen.
Switching on and off is an automatic process. Eneco gives a signal for the e-boiler well in advance. Based on this signal, the pressure in the customer’s system is influenced and the gas-fired installation automatically switches on or off. Without having to do anything yourself, you will have a reliable steam supply that is more sustainable and saves costs.
Eneco has a lot of know-how in terms of purchasing sustainable energy and predicting production and price patterns on the basis of the weather. The deployment planning of the electrode boiler is scheduled a day ahead by Eneco on an hourly basis. The boiler and the coupled gas boiler are then controlled fully automatically on the basis of this deployment schedule.
