Biodiversity
A rich biodiversity - the variety of all life, from plants and animals to microorganisms - ensures a healthy living environment. Unfortunately, biodiversity has drastically declined, especially in the Netherlands, partly due to climate change. That is why we must do everything we can to protect and restore it now.
Biodiversity: we can't live without it
We depend on biodiversity for our food, economy, health, nature and environment. How can we protect and restore biodiversity, which is under great pressure? Here is an overview of the threats, solutions, and the actions and initiatives that Eneco is taking to help restore and increase biodiversity. What we do
Since 2015, we have set out our sustainability goals in our One Planet Plan. The plan contains measurable objectives for climate, biodiversity, circularity and society. These goals are inextricably linked to our business strategy and plan. Strategic choices and investment decisions are tested against the One Planet goals. Our One Planet plan

Net positive on land
In projects, Eneco strives to restore biodiversity to at least 110% compared to the state of nature at the start. We achieve this by minimizing negative effects on biodiversity during project development and implementation and by investing in nature restoration and development.
Biodiversity Metric
Arcadis has developed the Biodiversity Metric for Eneco's sustainable energy projects, enabling us to identify the measures necessary to achieve a net positive impact on biodiversity.
Biodiversity on land
Eneco is committed to making nature healthier and more diverse. For example, when we build a new wind farm, we ensure more plants and animals can thrive there than before. We plant additional greenery around our projects to create new habitats for birds and insects, contributing to a flourishing environment for various species.

Marine biodiversity
Offshore wind plays a major role in the energy transition. The ecosystem must remain in balance both above and below water. That's why we design wind farms that take into account passing birds and provide space for marine life. Think of artificial reefs and resting areas for fish. This way, we work towards clean energy supply while respecting nature.Marine biodiversity in practice
