Eneco Ventures invests in digital energy community platform WeSmart

Rotterdam, 5 January 2024
In a significant move towards advancing sustainable and intelligent energy solutions, Eneco Ventures proudly announces its investment in WeSmart, a leading digital platform specializing in the development and management of renewable energy communities. The investment emphasizes Eneco Ventures' commitment to driving innovation in the energy sector with WeSmart’s solution improving net congestion while increasing self-optimization for its customers.

The investment is part of WeSmart’s EUR 2.0m seed funding round in which Wallonie Entreprendre, a Wallonia public regional investment institution, and existing investors joined the round. The investment aims to accelerate the development and improvement of existing technologies and explore new ways of promoting energy communities in Europe.

WeSmart is a Belgian company offering a digital one-stop-shop to develop and manage energy communities aiming to create a positive social and environmental impact, and to bring citizens together to create the energy society of tomorrow. Energy communities are becoming increasingly part of our energy system. WeSmart offers a digital platform to set up and manage energy communities ensuring an optimized offtake of locally produced renewable power, leading to less grid congestion. Its platform benefits both asset owners and consumers while taking care of all the administration and invoicing of energy communities through an integrated connection with the DSOs. WeSmart's solutions are aimed at the European market as the Clean Energy Package regulation regarding energy communities has been implemented in different countries since last year.
